FAQs

When is your show season?  Our season starts the first weekend of January and ends after the first weekend of November.  We do not have a year end championship show.  We will have an awards banquet at which point we will recognize the age group high points and also award the financial prizes to those who have nominated their horses.

Who can host a GPHA show?  Any individual/club in good standing may host a GPHA show, your location does not matter. There is no limit to the number of GPHA shows you can host each show season. We only require you follow the GPHA rules. We are not limited to the inside of the Kansas borders, thus the name "Great Plains". If someone outside Kansas wants to host a show, I'm always up for a little travel.

What are the fees or dues to be a part of GPHA?  There are no membership fees to be part of the GPHA.  There are no fees     charged to submit and publish a showbill.

Do I have to belong to a club to compete at a GPHA show?   As there are no membership requirements to participate in or host a GPHA show, any association with or membership in any club outside GPHA has no bearing on your eligibility to participate in a GPHA show. You ride as an individual and earn points as an individual.

Can I ride more than one horse at a GPHA show, or can more than one person ride a horse in the same age group?  Our rules allow any person to ride more than one horse in any age group provided they pay a separate entry fee for each horse ridden. Our rules also allow multiple riders to use the same horse in the same junior class (6&Under and 7-11 age groups only). This is to try and make the shows a little more friendly to those families who have more littles than horses as they start out or in the unfortunate event they lose a horse to injury or death.

Do I have to nominate my horse to be able to compete at a GPHA show?  You do not have to nominate your horse(s) to participate in a GPHA show, you can just show up, pay your entry fee and ride. If you choose to not nominate your horse(s), your points will not be tracked and you will not be eligible for year end prizes.  You can choose to nominate any time during the show season and your points will be tracked from that show forward.  These points will translate to a financial award at the end of the season.  The value of each point is determined by dividing the balance in our Prize Fund by the total number of points earned (by every nominated rider/horse combo)
